Blue Boulder Opal Pendant

Journey of the Blue boulder opal.

Thought i would share the process of how this blue baby came about. This solid boulder was ethically mined in the heartland of Queensland.

I purchased this opal because of her stunning rich royal blue colouring. I thought about a few designs, either a necklet or little ring, but I decided on turning her sideways and putting her into a necklet. Most times you see this strong blue opal set in silver. Personally I would rather white gold for a bit more durability. With so many colour options available, white, yellow or rose gold, I really couldn't decide. So i put it to all my facebook followers to weigh in. The option was either yellow or rose gold, and I couldn't believe to volume of responce, it was truely overwhelming, the rose gold won hands down. So I made a beautiful rub setting to fit perfectly around her, and soldered the rose gold chain in place. She is really beautiful and the soft tones of the rose gold are just the right contrast for this bespoke piece. What a joy it is to see the piece although simple in design, come to life.
